This place is so quintessential English. Its just lovely. We had a dog with us and were really please to be shown into a ground floor room with french windows to a private enclosed garden for the dog. But more than that, the place was like an airbnb in so far it had its own kitchenette with fridge and microwave and little seated area for eating only someone else did the cleaning. There was also a spare bed. We were just a couple and a dog, but the room is very spacious and ample for a small family to stay comfortably. I honestly could live there. The staff were so lovely and friendly. I really liked how they employed a range of different people from the village, you could tell it was a real hub for the community. Its not posh or plush, its definitely a pub, but its just perfectly so. The breakfast was delicious and amazing value considering 2 x Egg on toast and coffee came to £30 in Castle Acre, so 2 full English and 2 coffee in with the price was amazing. The restaurant food was good and homecooked too. The village is lovely, there is a convenient co-op/ butchers/ deli down the road with everything you need, but the really great thing is, Thetford Forest and the Arboretum are just behind the property, literally a 5-10 min walk. On the photos I thought we were driving to the woods, but no, we just walked there really easily. We really really loved this stay. It was like a big cuddle

We arrived well before check-in with many bags, relocating to RAF Lakenheath from the US, utterly exhausted, and ready to just drop. The staff at The Crown welcomed us right away and showed us to a wonderful family room with 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, and even a little yard for our dog. Each morning we had delicious breakfast and many nights we ate in the pub. The food there was just amazing. That pavlova will be living in my brain for many years. We look forward to getting settled in the area and returning to The Crown for dinners and breakfasts and to touch base with the staff. Truly, I can't say enough about how kind everyone was to us and how lovely it was to be welcomed into this beautiful area with their smiles and explanations when I ask simple, but silly questions.

The hotel was very charming, the rooms spacious and very clean. the beds and bedding were high quality. It was lovely to have double size beds for single person use and they were extremely comfortable. We loved being in an annex slightly apart from the main hotel rooms, so peaceful! Breakfast was also excellent, good quality produce and cooked well. The waitress was really lovely and so kind to the children, making sure they chose exactly what they wanted so the whole experience was very relaxing.

We've stayed at the Crown several times and the quality of our stay keeps bringing us back. This was the first time we were in this room and it was really nice to have a bath as well as a shower. The inn is over 300 years old but manages to combine just enough 'olde worlde' charm to be memorable with all the modern facilities you would expect to be really comfortable. As usual, the breakfast was excellent. I also recommend booking for dinner. We will be back next year.

Susan

Top of the list is the staff. My son has complex disabilities and they could not do enough to support him. Also what an absolute privilege to stay in a hotel parts of which date back to 1650! The village is also interesting historically. As the building is complex there was few 'rooms' that form the restaurant...that worked well for us as we had a quite dining room. We did enjoy the hotel's quirkiness - we will definitely return as well place for exploring Norfolk.
